NONE-MONETARY REWARD AND EMPLOYEES’ JOB PERFORMANCE IN PORT HARCOURT ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANY (PHED), CROSS RIVER STATE
Abstract
This study examined the effect of none-monetary reward on employees’ job performance in Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) in Cross River State. The study used descriptive research design to study a sample of 93 employees out of 150 population of the company staffs in Cross River State through the help of Taro Yamane sample size formula. Data was collected through the use of structured questionnaires in 5-Likert scale format. Both simple percentages and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) multiple regression were used as the descriptive and inferential statistical tools for data analysis. The study discovered that none-monetary reward has significant effect on employees’ job performance in Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED). It was specifically revealed that none-monetary reward practices such as staff recognition, and staff development opportunities have influence job commitment, efficiency and overall job performance of employees in Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) in Cross River State. The study thus, recommends that management of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) should continue the use of none-monetary reward such as recognizing employees’ job well done through gift presentation, awards etc. and as well giving of their employees more developmental opportunities in their various job profession to gain employees’ citizenship behavior, improve employees’ commitment and job performance.
