DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM POTENTIALS OF WUKARI LGA, TARABA STATE NIGERIA
Abstract:
Tourism development plays a crucial role in fostering economic growth, cultural preservation, and community empowerment. This study focuses on the development of tourism potentials in Wukari Local Government Area (LGA) of Taraba State, Nigeria, a region rich in cultural heritage, natural landscapes, and historical significance.
Wukari LGA, located in the North-East region of Nigeria, boasts a diverse array of tourist attractions, including ancient monuments, traditional festivals, archaeological sites, and scenic landscapes. However, despite its vast tourism potential, the area remains largely untapped and underdeveloped in terms of tourism infrastructure, marketing strategies, and community engagement.
This research aims to assess the tourism potentials of Wukari LGA and propose strategies for sustainable tourism development. Through a combination of field surveys, stakeholder interviews, and data analysis, the study identifies key attractions, assesses current tourism infrastructure and facilities, and evaluates the socio-economic impact of tourism on local communities.
The findings reveal the untapped potential of Wukari LGA as a tourism destination and highlight the need for concerted efforts to promote tourism development in the region. Recommendations for enhancing tourism in Wukari LGA include infrastructure improvements, marketing and promotion strategies, capacity building initiatives, and community involvement in tourism planning and management.
By harnessing its tourism potentials, Wukari LGA has the opportunity to diversify its economy, create employment opportunities, preserve cultural heritage, and improve the overall quality of life for its residents. This study contributes to the body of knowledge on sustainable tourism development in Nigeria and offers practical insights for policymakers, tourism practitioners, and local communities seeking to unlock the tourism potential of their regions.
