A REVIEW OF SERUM ELECTROLYTES/UREA/CREATININE IN PREGNANT WOMEN WITH MALARIA PARASITES

Abstract:

Objective: This prospective study aims to investigate the impact of malaria parasitic infection on serum electrolytes, urea, and creatinine levels in pregnant women. Malaria remains a significant public health concern, particularly in regions with a high prevalence of the disease. Understanding the alterations in biochemical parameters in pregnant women infected with malaria parasites is crucial for improving antenatal care and maternal-fetal outcomes.

Methods: A cohort of pregnant women diagnosed with malaria parasitic infection and an age-matched control group without malaria will be enrolled in this study. Serum samples will be collected to assess electrolyte concentrations (sodium, potassium, and chloride), urea levels, and creatinine levels. The analysis will be conducted at multiple time points to capture potential dynamic changes during the course of the infection.

Results: The study aims to provide insights into the potential alterations in serum electrolytes, urea, and creatinine levels associated with malaria infection in pregnant women. Statistical analyses will be employed to compare the biochemical parameters between the infected and non-infected groups. Correlations between these parameters and disease severity will also be explored.

Conclusion: This research will contribute valuable information to the understanding of the physiological impact of malaria infection on pregnant women. The findings may aid in the development of targeted interventions to mitigate the adverse effects of malaria during pregnancy, ultimately improving maternal and fetal health outcomes.
