BIOLOGICAL FORENSIC TECHNIQUES-METHODS AND APPLICATIONS

ABSTRACT:

Techniques developed by forensic biologists are used in medical labs around the country. These techniques assist police personnel in identifying perpetrators of serious offenses as well as helping doctors diagnose disease by detecting the presence of bodily fluids in samples. Without these techniques, medicine and criminal detection would still be very much in the dark.

This work discusses biological forensic techniques: methods and applications. A hundred and twenty questionnaires were shared amongst security agents from selected states in Nigeria. Interviews and surveys were also conducted.

Primary and secondary data were used the analysis. Both frequency distribution and regression analysis were used.

It was observed therefore that biological forensic has a significant effect on the development of the Nation. Also, there is a strong relationship between biological forensic and the development of the Nation.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the study

Television shows and animated films, for over 80 years, have been entertaining the kids. Felix the Cat the first ever cartoon icon, which started its journey in 1920s. In the next 10 years, Donald duck, Mickey Mouse and Pluto was the cartoon character which are being introduce by Disney Brother’ s Cartoon Studios (Box Office Mojo.com, 2004). Now a day, children’  s physical activities are limited by excessive watching of television. As cartoon watching is the most favorite hobby of children in their leisure time, so they like to watch the cartoons on television rather than to do any physical activity.

Cartoon watching affects the attitude and behavior of kids i.e. their liking and disliking, way of talking, and behaving with other children. It also has a strong affect on their language and the way of their dressing and eating.

Cartoon Network is the most favorite cartoon channel in the world. Cartoon network started its transmission in 1992, and has gained record breaking popularity. Since August 2002, it has been watched in more than 80 million homes in United States of America and in 145 countries throughout the world. It is one of the top ad- supported channels for cable television network. Cartoon Network is the 24/7 channel and broadcasting only “ Cartoons” , yet its  68 percent audience belongs to children of  the age group from 2 to 17 years, whereas, rest 32 percent belongs to the age group of above 18 years and adults. The children from the age group from 6 to 11 are the core audience of the Cartoon Network (Stabile and Harrison, 2003). Cartoon programs contained violence as its integral part. It is noted that cartoon content is full of violence than serial plays and comedies (Potter and Warren, 1998). As the result, children are more exposed to violence showed in the cartoon program than any other television program broadcasted during prime time i.e. 8pm to 11pm (Gerbner, Gross, Morgan and Signorelli, 1994).

Now a day, in social communication research, the impact of cartoons has gained a new status. Today, animation is used to convey the messages to target audience, e.g. in marketing and learning (Ginmann, 2003). The results of the research has shown that there are different variables having affects such as liking and disliking of cartoon characters, based on their gender, accessories and costumes they use, physical attractiveness, age, intelligence, anti and pro-social behaviors and over goodness and badness (Klein and Shiffman, 2006).

The influence of the media especially television in learning mechanism is considered to be very important. Television has a strong impact on all of its viewers including all age groups. Today, our mother tongue is greatly affected by the different linguistic expressions which are being presented on television e.g.  “ break ke bad” (After the break). Likewise, children also affected up to a large extent by the different linguistic terms presented on television in their favorite dramas and cartoons (Gokulsing, 2009). Kottak (1990) believes that television programs and all types of cartoons and animated movies are the main factors which are playing a key role in enculturalisation of American children. It should be understood now that which type of culture these different television contents are presenting, in order to bring some drastic changes in popular cultures.

1.2 Statement of the problem

There may have been researches done in this subject on understanding the challenges of cartoon networks and other same or similar research topics. However, this research topic gives further explanation and analysis. The growing influence of cartoon in the lives of children have now gained a focus-attention

1.3 Objectives of the study

  1. To understand the impact of cartoon networks on the development of a child
  2. To understand the relationship between cartoon network programmes and childhood development

1.4 Research questions

  1. What is the impact of cartoon networks on the development of a child?
  2. What is the relationship between cartoon network programmes and childhood development?

1.5 Research hypothesis

H01: Behavior of school going kids in class is not influenced by the frequency they watch cartoons.

H1: Behavior of school going kids in class is influenced by the frequency they watch cartoons.

H02: Violence presented in the  cartoons does not influence the behavior of the children.

H2: Violence presented in the  cartoons influence the behavior of the children.

APPLICATION OF LAWRENCE KOHLBERG’S CONVENTIONAL MORAL MODEL IN ENHANCING EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND DECISION MAKING

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  1. Background of the study

Lawrence Kohlberg (1927-1987) described three stages of moral development which described the process through which people learn to discriminate right from wrong and to develop increasingly sophisticated appreciations of morality. He believed that his stages were cumulative; each built off understanding and abilities gained in prior stages. According to Kohlberg, moral development is a lifelong task, and many people fail to develop the more advanced stages of moral understanding.

father and son huggingKohlberg’s first ‘preconventional’ level describes children whose understanding of morality is essentially only driven by consequences. Essentially, “might makes right” to a preconventional mind, and they worry about what is right in wrong so they don’t get in trouble. Second stage ‘conventional’ morality describes people who act in moral ways because they believe that following the rules is the best way to promote good personal relationships and a healthy community. A conventional morality person believes it is wrong to steal not just because he doesn’t want to get punished but also because he doesn’t want his friends or family to be harmed. The final ‘postconventional’ level describes people whose view of morality transcend what the rules or laws say. Instead of just following rules without questioning them, ‘postconventional’ stage people determine what is moral based on a set of values or beliefs they think are right all the time. For example, during the Vietnam War, many Americans who were drafted to be soldiers opposed the war on moral grounds and fled to Canada rather than fight. Even though this behavior was against the law, these people decided that these particular laws did not follow the higher rules they believed in, and they chose to follow their higher rules.

  1. Statement of the problem

There may have been previous researches in this subject. This work gives further explanations and analysis in application of lawrence kohlberg’s conventional moral model in enhancing emotional intelligence and decision making
