It erodes the country’s sustainable development and affects the national security by weakening the institutional foundation on which all policies are made and implemented. Corruption has adverse effect on investment, growth, development and national security .Payment of bribes to get an investment license clearly reduces the incentive to invest. This paper examines the causes, manifestations and implications of corruption for Nigeria’s development and national security. The paper recommends that people should be inculcated with moral values and educated on the ills of corruption. This will enhance a corruption-free society. It also recommends that anticorruption law should be reformed and judiciously enforced to address the problem of corruption with the aim of achieving a better national security that will ensure speedy and sustainable development.
