EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIFFERENT PADDING MATERIAL USED UNDER CAST IN PREVENTING PRESSURE SORES
Abstract
The study investigates the effectiveness of various padding materials used under casts in preventing pressure sores in immobilized patients. Pressure sores are a common complication during long-term cast immobilization, caused by prolonged pressure on the skin and underlying tissues. This research aims to evaluate different types of padding materials, including synthetic, cotton, and foam options, to determine their protective properties in reducing pressure sore incidence. A randomized clinical trial was conducted involving patients requiring limb immobilization, with each group assigned different padding materials. Data on pressure sore development, patient comfort, and skin condition were collected over the immobilization period. The results highlight key differences in material performance, offering insights into the most effective options for clinical use. The findings contribute to improving patient care by reducing the risk of pressure sores, optimizing cast padding choices, and enhancing overall treatment outcomes for immobilized patients.
