GLOBALISATION AND EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA-IMPLICATIONS FOR EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT
Abstract:
Globalization has emerged as a transformative force shaping various aspects of societies, including the field of education. This study explores the impact of globalization on educational development in Nigeria and its implications for educational management. Drawing on a mixed-methods approach, including a comprehensive literature review and qualitative interviews with education stakeholders, the research investigates how globalization trends have influenced educational policies, curriculum development, and institutional practices in Nigeria.
The findings reveal that globalization has led to both opportunities and challenges in the Nigerian educational landscape. Positive aspects include increased access to information and educational resources, exposure to diverse perspectives, and the potential for international collaborations. However, challenges such as cultural homogenization, inequalities in access to global educational benefits, and tensions between global and local values have also surfaced.
In terms of educational management, the study identifies the need for adaptive leadership, capacity building, and strategic planning to navigate the complexities of a globalized educational environment. Recommendations are made for policy adjustments, curriculum innovations, and professional development initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of educational management in the face of globalization.
The implications of this research contribute to the ongoing discourse on the intersection of globalization and educational development in Nigeria. Education policymakers, administrators, and practitioners can use these insights to formulate informed strategies that align with global trends while safeguarding the unique cultural and contextual characteristics of the Nigerian educational system.
