ABSTRACT

This study attempts to understand the cultural dynamic of the contemporary world. It is in this context that an African cultural festival, is discussed. The study is also a contribution to the on-going debate or inquiry by many scholars on the fate of African ways of life in the context of globalization. Consequently, the concept and process of globalization and its implications on cultural practices such as Nkadioka cultural festivals are carefully examined. The work is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. It covers some of the theoretical issues relating to the thesis. Basic concepts such as culture, festival, drama/theatre African drama, performance theory and globalization are defined. There is also a discussion on the historical origin of the Umudioka community where the festival is practiced.
