RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STUDENTS’ STUDY HABITS AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN BIOLOGY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN KATSINA METROPOLIS, NIGERIA
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the relationship between students’ study habits and academic performance in biology among secondary schools in Katsina metropolis. This study adopted descriptive correlation survey research design. The population of the study covered all public secondary schools in Katsina metropolis with the total population of 11,103 biology students. Simple random technique was used to select the sample of 60 students. The students’ study habit inventory and achievement test were adopted, validated and subjected to pilot testing with reliability coefficient of 0.76 and 0.84 respectively, two hypotheses were formulated and tested, mean and standard deviation, and PPMCC were used for the analysis. The study revealed that there is significant relationship between the students’ study habits and academic performance in biology among secondary schools in Katsina metropolis. Based on this study it’s recommended that the parents should be enlightened on the importance of their involvement on improvement of their children study habit toward their academic performance.
